ORIGINAL LESSONS BY CHRIS BROOKS

 LICKS FROM "THE MASTER PLAN"

I've had a number of requests for tabs for the songs of "The Master Plan" recently, and I really am happy that people are curious about what I do on the guitar.

At some stage in the future, I do plan to undertake the task of working out what the hell I did on some of those songs (since most of the lead lines were improvised) and making some full songs available in Tab.

In the meantime, I'll be adding a lick or two at a time from the album, as requested by those that have purchased the album or downloaded the samples.

  • Kryptica Intro - This example is the whole tone lick from the introduction, when the chunky rhythm guitars come in.  The notes are groups in lots of six and seven, but played with a little rubato.  When playing this lick, I only pick on when moving to a new string in the ascending direction only.

  • Kryptica Verse - NEW! This is the first verse of Kryptica.  This one is fairly representative of the notes and intervals I often throw in when playing in the natural minor (Aeolian) tonality.  Note that while the fingerings are exactly what I play, the phrasing of the fast legato line at the end is played with a lot of rubato, and I don't often drag or rush in exactly the same places twice.  It's just a vibe thing and as long as you start and finish in the right places, feel free to have some fun with the phrasing of that line.

  • Crack in the Hourglass - Here is the first few minutes of "CITH", starting where the guitars kick in and going up until the change of feel after the first keyboard solo.
