Chris Brooks is a British-born photographer whose work examines the complicated nature of belonging and family, nationhood, identity, and the power of place. Brooks utilizes a combination of deadpan humor and ‘storm in a teacup’ tragedy to produce an often quiet, observational set of images, a mode inherited from growing up in a poor working-class area of Thatcher’s Britain.
After being seduced by editorial photography in the early 2000s in London, Brooks began to work on commissions for magazines such as Love, Pop, British Vogue and HTSI, before moving to Europe and then later NY, two places he now shares his time between. From the beginning of his career Brooks worked with ideas and methods unusual at the time and soon became known for his early adoption of environment in still-life photography, as well as his humorous way of combining luxury objects with everyday scenarios.
He works with brands such as Armani, American Express, Bucherer, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Gucci Beauty, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Miu Miu, and Tommy Hilfiger. Editorially, he has collaborated with some of the worlds finest publications including Harper Bazaar Italia, d la Repubblica, American Vogue, British Vogue, HTSI, 10 Magazine, POP, T Magazine, V Magazine, The Blend Journal and Wallpaper.
Chris also publishes high quality art editions from a small press entitled ‘The Brooks Press, a family business of his since the late 1800’s, reimagined over a century later to produce process led books and editions.
